PepsiCo Heating and Weatherization Retrofit

Energy conservation measures at this bottling plant help save over $115,000 in energy costs each year.

Value Delivered

ECM developed a comprehensive slate of energy conservation measures expected to save PepsiCo’s 51st Street bottling plant over $115,000 annually. Our solutions and their return on investment (ROI) included:

  • New infrared heating system: $102,000 saved annually, $67,200 utility rebate, and an ROI of less than four years
  • Weatherization improvements: $12,600 saved and an ROI of less than three years

Client Objectives

PepsiCo contacted us to evaluate the building’s condition and identify energy efficiency technologies that could help reduce utility spend while enhancing the comfort and productivity of their work environment.

Solutions

Our energy conservation solutions, included:

  • Weatherization and air leak sealing
    • 2,550 linear feet of roof/wall joints sealed with two-part foam
    • Exterior doors were weather stripped and sealed with door sealing foam tape and floor sweeps
  • Elimination of low efficiency gas-fired steam boiler heating system and replacement with high efficiency infrared system

Thanks to the success of these measures, PepsiCo reached out to us to implement similar solutions at about a dozen other facilities.

Additionally, we also implemented a number of other efficiency improvements at the Chicago plant, as a part of a larger multi-site effort across Pepsi’s portfolio, including:

  • HVAC rejuvenation coatings
  • Air quality monitoring and advanced HVAC controls based on air quality measurements
  • High efficiency lighting and controls
