Value Delivered
After a thorough assessment, we recommended an onsite chlorination system for a resort in Hawaii that will help address water balancing and operational challenges for their pools and aquatic equipment.
Annually, the system is projected to reduce the resort’s muriatic acid use by 60-percent and eliminate the use of 21,000-pounds of chlorine, for an estimated value of $70,615 each year. Properly balanced water will help minimize maintenance needs and extend the life of pumps up to two years, heaters up to four, and plaster up to 10—saving nearly $200,000 in annual capital expenses.
Further, employees will no longer need to handle sanitizer and muriatic acid, reducing risk, and guest comfort will also benefit thanks to improved control over pool conditions.
Client Objectives
The resort’s Director of Engineering was facing challenges related to high operational expenses, steep equipment maintenance and replacement costs, and poor control over water quality. Everyday staff had to haul in buckets of chemicals, mix them, and manually load feeders which required frequent service.
The resort needed a solution that would help alleviate fluctuating chemical costs, improve operational efficiencies, and promote employee safety—while also increasing water quality and guest satisfaction.
Solutions
Our team started by assessing the resort’s existing pool equipment and performing an in-depth analysis of water chemistry. Based on this data, we recommended an onsite chlorination system equipped with parts per million (PPM) controllers and remote monitoring.
The new equipment offers the following:
- Production of up to 80-pounds of chlorine per day, capable of meeting peak demand
- 24/7 computerized monitoring with email alerts, advanced remote troubleshooting support, and 30-minute logs of all water chemistry readings
- Unique pH-neutral chlorine that helps reduce acid consumption
- Only one gallon of muriatic acid is required for every 20 pounds of chlorine manufactured
- Complete control over pool conditions, including how much salt is added
- Routine maintenance services
This solution not only eliminated the client’s need for bulk chlorine, but also avoided up-front capital investment.
Client Background
The client is a prominent, full-service resort in Kona, Hawaii. Along with over 500 guest rooms, the resort boasts a 360,000-gallon activity pool, hot tubs, sprout fountains, sandy-bottomed children’s play area, and 200-foot water slide.
