Value Delivered

ECM completed a comprehensive water, plumbing, and controls retrofit aimed at improving energy efficiency and safety at the Rutherford County Jail. The improvements will help the jail cut energy costs by more than $100,000 annually.

The efficiency highlight of the project was a BACnet two-way control system networking toilets, showers, and faucets in 460 inmate cells. Operated and monitored from guard station terminals, the server allows limitations to be set for toilet flushes per day and runtimes on the sink and shower in each cell.

Additionally, an ozone laundry system was also installed that helped reduce the hot water load by 75 percent while also improving disinfection.

Client Objectives

Built in 1987, Rutherford County Jail was in serious need of a waterworks retrofit. Due to age, most of their equipment was water and energy inefficient and much had suffered damage from inmates.
