Austin, TX

University of Texas at Austin

Our team retrofitted 256,000 light fixtures in 150 buildings on this university campus.

Value Delivered

The university contracted with ECM to upgrade all the light fixtures on campus (housing and sports facilities excluded) and at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus within one fiscal year.

Over that 12-month period, 256,000 fixtures were replaced, at an average rate of 6,000 fixtures per week.

Annual energy savings from these updates are 28.5-million-kilowatt hours.

Client Objectives

The University of Texas at Austin had a budget for energy efficient lighting with funding limited to retrofits completed within the fiscal year.

Solutions

In order to complete construction for 30 million square feet of building space in a 12-month timeframe, we continuously developed and performed projects. Our team replaced florescent lighting in all labs, halls, cafeterias, etc. (150 buildings) and added occupancy sensor controls in bathrooms and classrooms.

We recycled all boxes, packaging, lamps, ballasts, and metal fixtures.
