ECM partnered with an ESCO client to overhaul and clean up the existing air coil cooling tower on the roof of the UMass Memorial Medical Center. ECM cleaned the unit, made repairs to corroded areas, sealed and coated surfaces with our proprietary HVAC Armor coating, and prepped the cooling tower to be put back in service.

Client Objectives

The hospital wanted to help improve the performance of their aging cooling tower, which was extremely dirty, rusting, and leaking from the basin. 

Solutions

  • Cleaned mud and silt from the tower basin
  • Patched and repaired corroded areas
  • Sealed seams with flexible polyurethane
  • Prepped and coated surfaces
  • Cleaned and repaired tower components:
    • Sills
    • Nozzles
    • Fill
    • Cracked PVC-jacketed insulation
    • Hot water deck
  • Cleaned and sandblasted walls, louvers, and structural steel
